Reading Update

Okay, so the Forsyte Saga has been sitting unread for about a week. So many other books were demanding my attention--I decided to cruise through them and work on them so that when I read the Forsyte Saga, it has my full attention.

I completed Deepak Chopra's Seven Spiritual Laws of Success a bit ago. Currently I am working on his Ageless Body, Timeless Mind and The Way of the Wizard.

A few days ago I completed Lawrence Block's Hit List.

Yesterday I saw Hunted. There are some good knife-fighting scenes, and Tommy Lee Jones does a pretty good job in the flick. It's worth watching a second time, that's for sure.

Last night I finished up Arturo Perez-Reverte's The Fencing Master. Great stuff! I really enjoyed it.

I have a hard time listing sports and martial arts training books for a simple reason: most of them have pictures, are specific to training or practicing specific moves, and, as instruction manuals (largely) they are hard to just "read." You look at them, you review the moves, and then you move on. Fulling engaging the text requires practicing some of the moves, and in many cases, this is not possible due to lack of partner, skill, flexibility, etc. etc. So, I've read these books but I regard them as a different kind of reading.

Royce Gracie and Charles Gracie's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense Techniques
Renzo Gracie and Royler Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Levine & Whitman Complete Krav Maga
Imi Sde-Or and Eyal Yanilov Krav Maga: How to Defend Yourself Against Armed Assault
Michael D. Echanis Basic Stick Fighting for Combat

Finished Books

Writing the book post yesterday urged me to reorganize by shelves so I can see all the books I am now reading. Having done that, I was compelled to finish Joe Berry's Ivory Tower and Hei Long's Guide to Basic Self-Defense. Still working on Dune.

Reading list

School is out, and I have stacks--literally--of books to read. So, I am merrily plowing through them when I am not at the river with my people cooling down or training.

It is orgiastic to read so much. Seventh Heaven.

This is just current stuff, and little of it is related to PhD reading or professional materials. I'm just indulging totally at the moment.

Boba Fett Rap

Funny stuff with edited clips from the Star Wars films:

Science Fiction Brokeback Variations

Here's a collection of Science Fiction variations on Brokeback Mountain. Talk about riffing away on original slash zines.

Galactica

Pirates of the Carib

Kirk & Spock

Trek: TNG

Gangsta Rap: Ice Cube & Yoda

I really, really like this Ice Cube track. Great social critique, and the opening scene is just too good. Good stuff. I keep on listening to it over and over again.

On the lighter side, here's one of the versions of Star Wars Gangsta Rap:
